Baqsa is a writing, recording, and production studio in Bombay's western suburbs, founded by composer, lyricist, and recording artist Sameer Rahat. It is the room behind original music for Hansal Mehta's Faraaz (BFI London Film Festival, 2022) and Modern Love Mumbai (Prime Video), and lyrics for Sector 36 (Netflix), Hush Hush (Prime Video), and The Fame Game (Netflix), among others. Baqsa's advertising work for Google, Meta, Uber, Vice London, Samsung, TATA, Bumble, Britannia, and Hershey's, among others, has been recognised at Cannes Lions, D&AD, The One Show, Spikes Asia, and Kyoorius.
The studio is built around the disciplines its founder works in: songwriting, score-to-picture, lyric writing in Urdu, Hindi, and English, and the kind of slow, considered production records demand. It is equipped to international standards and run by working artists, which means most projects begin not with a brief but with a conversation.
We work on: original score for film, series, and documentary · songs for film and independent release · lyric writing and translation · advertising music and sonic branding · co-writing and topline sessions · mixing and mastering for the projects we produce.
